COMBE with a testimonial on phrenology in education, 1836; lectured on phrenology in the Glasgow Mechanics' Inst, where he also taught grammar; lectured in Forfar 1836 at the invitation of the town magistrates; ordained 1847 and graduated from Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, 1859, where he was appointed chaplain 1860-4; first lecturer of English history at Cambridge 1860-4; appointed prof at King's College, London, 1864.
