London, 1838 and was a demonstrator there in 1845 when he read a paper to the Med Soc in which he claimed that GALL'S system was unphilosophical and that his physiology had preceded his anatomy; subsequently became consulting surgeon, Univ Coll Hosp, pres of several med societies, FRS, prof of anatomy at Roy Academy and Fullerian prof at Roy Inst; author of various important med works.
