Christian Advocate at Cambridge and vicar of Kensington; author of Remarks on Scepticism (1819; reviewed PHREN J, 1 [1824]: 120-46) in which the views of LAWRENCE, Sir T. C. MORGAN and M. Bichat on the organization of life were challenged and in which was forwarded the anti-phrenological doctrine that portions of the brain were entirely disorganized; according to T. FORSTER, 1827, Rennell was an enthusiast of craniology before he discovered it to be materialistic. (DNB)
