diarist; travelled in Germany and met Goethe and Schiller, 1800-2; studied at Jena Univ, 1802-5; Times correspondent, 1808-9; barrister, Middle Temple, 1813; founder of the Athenaeum Club of University College, London; friend of C. A. TULK and other Swedenborgians; introduced to GALL in Jena in 1805; dined with SPURZHEIM in London in May 1814 (recalling that when he met him with Gall in 1805 he was "the formulus of Gall," a part of whose job was to collect the fees from Gall's auditors.)
