London wine merchant, FGS, FSA and FRAS; founder and patron of the Owenite John St Inst; friend of London radicals; had a large geological, antiquarian and phrenological collection which he made available to working people and which was intended to be left to R. OWEN'S Harmony Hall; elected to the LONDON PHREN SOC, Jan 1844; associate of EPPS and HIBBERT (whose head ended up in Saull's museum). (DNB; Wheeler)
