Editorial Description

scientific evangelist with theatrical inclinations; lectured with KISTE in the South of England, 1840- 3, specializing, after 1843, in phreno-mesmerism; M PHREN ASSN. 1840, and delivered a paper at the 1841 meeting; preceded Luke BURKE as ed PEOPLE'S PHREN J; his lectures in Exeter, 1840-1, sparked the formation of the EXETER PHREN SOC; in 1845 he advertised himself as a "consultant on mesmerism and phrenology" at a Regent St, London, address; involved with Chartism, he was imprisoned for 18 months for sedition in 1848 and died shortly after. his release.
