Edin 1822; FRCP 1859; born in Wales; pres BIRMINGHAM PHREN SOC from its establishment in 1838; elected town coroner of Birmingham in 1839, a post he held until 1875; phys to the Dispensary and Free Hosp; pres Birmingham Library, 1829; active in local politics as a liberal, which prevented him becoming a phys to the Gen Hosp; with William Sands Cox and Edward Johnstone, he established the Birmingham Roy Sch of Med, which became Queen's College, where he was to hold the Chair of Forensic Med; at his death he was one of the oldest members of the BMA.
