sculptor, draftsman and friend of William Blake; took a deep interest in animal magnetism and in the occult; Henry Crabb ROBINSON recorded in his Diary for 22 Dec 1825: "I find that [F] is a decided spiritualist, he is a believer in phrenology. In Swedenborg there is a doctrine which reconciles him to Gall's seemingly materialistic doctrine... and Flaxman believes that the form of the skull is modified in after life by the intellectual and moral character."
