Edin 1816, FRCS Edin; lecturer on physiology and medical jurisprudence at the Argyle Square Sch of Med, Edin; medical reformer; the son of a London merchant; author of Discourse on the Importance of the Study of Physiology as a Branch of Popular Education, 1836 (reviewed PHREN J, 10 [1836/7]: 79-80) and, posthumously, Rudiments of Physiology in Three Parts (1837), and Elements of General Pathology (1842); made no claim to being a phrenologist, but thought it deserved fair play. (Biographical sketch by his friend R. LEWINS in Rudiments.)
